Installing underfloor insulation in a home with draughty suspended floors will improve thermal comfort, reduce energy bills and protect the structure of the home. However, the success of any underfloor insulation system depends heavily on one crucial step: a thorough pre-installation survey.
Conditions beneath the floor can vary widely. A professional survey ensures that the insulation system is suitable for the structure, environment, and services already in place.
What is included in our survey?
- Underfloor Ventilation
Existing underfloor ventilation is inspected to ensure adequate airflow. Proper ventilation helps manage moisture and prevents condensation build-up beneath the home.

- Moisture Assessment
Moisture readings are taken from the joists, with particular focus on areas beneath bathrooms and kitchens. Elevated moisture levels can indicate leaks or condensation issues that should be resolved before insulation is installed to prevent rot and mould growth.
- Subfloor Clearance
We record the subfloor height to ensure accessibility for the installation.
- External perimeter checks
We look around the external perimeter for any defects that could now or one day lead to moisture ingress. These include:
- Ground levels
- Bridging
- Gullys, downpipes, drains, and gutters
- Internal Checks
Internal checks are carried out to identify any visible signs of damp or mould, alongside a visual assessment of ventilation. These help confirm the home is suitable for underfloor insulation without increasing the chances of condensation. All information is logged digitally, and improvements are recommended where necessary.
- Accessibility
We need to be able to access the subfloor void, so the surveyor will determine how and, more importantly, where access points should be made. All of this is communicated in person and via a floorplan created on the day.
Why a survey is important before installing underfloor insulation?
Skipping the survey stage can lead to reduced insulation performance, moisture problems, or costly remedial work. A detailed pre-installation survey ensures that underfloor insulation is installed correctly, efficiently, and built to last.
A thorough survey doesn’t just protect the insulation – it protects the home.
