Q-Bot celebrates International Women's Day

8 March 2021

Happy International Women's Day 2021 !

Q-Bot is proud to have built a diverse team with 26% of women working at the company, and 33% of them have a management role. This is much higher than the average for the UK engineering and construction industry, which represents 8% of women in engineering [1] and 11% in the construction industry [2].

Women in the Q-Bot ecosystem were more than happy to testify about their experience, and inspire and empower more women into the construction industry.

Charlotte Famy - Managing Director at Saint Gobain

"Women represent less than 13% of professional workers in the construction industry and the number is even lower on the front line of the job site. However, the good news is that there is a shift in mindset in the construction industry as it moves towards greater diversity.

I’ve been working at Saint Gobain for the past 17 years and there has never been a dull moment. We are facing such challenges in construction today that I am convinced that we will meet them only with diverse teams.  This is why I have always been committed to create the right conditions to make business more inclusive.

Along this exciting journey, I have discovered new technologies for the built environment, allowing us to make work easier onsite and make it more digitalized. Q-Bot is part of these new companies that bring innovation in construction. I now sit on the Board and it is a fascinating adventure to see it growing while keeping diversity on the top of its priorities.

I’m looking forward to seeing more women in the construction industry!"

Dayna Kivell - Head of Robots at Q-Bot

"Building, creating and inventing has always been my passion from a very early age, pulling things apart, learning how they work and putting them back together (in some cases with a few bits missing, sorry Mum). I was fortunate enough to study Electronics and Computer Systems Engineering which allowed me to turn my childhood passions into real world applications. Whilst at university I came across the famous quote ‘Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life’ and here at Q-Bot I have yet to work a full day."

Maddy Clifford - Head of Product at Q-Bot

"I love working at Q-Bot for the hard working ethos and the core values of combatting climate change and being a positive force in the industry."

Elodie Soler - Design Manager at Q-Bot

"I find working in the construction industry as challenging as it is rewarding. There is so much potential for innovation to improve our living environment whilst reducing our carbon emissions, I think it’s a very exciting space to be in!"

Audrey Massy - Marketing Manager at Q-Bot

"It's very exciting and rewarding to work in an innovative tech company that is changing our world for the better!"

Vanessa Creppy - Finance Assistant at Q-Bot

"Working in Finance within the Engineering/Construction industry has been a great experience and challenge. As more women enter the industry, it marks the growing opportunity for change and progression in our modern day; I believe this will only push for further successes and innovation!"

Emmeline - Robot applying insulation in low void

Here is our latest robot Emmeline, one of Q-Bot's smallest spraying robots, capable of spraying insulation in voids as low as 20cm.

Emmeline is named after Emmeline Pankhurst, who is responsible for giving women the right to vote and be part of designing their own future!

Betty - Robot applying insulation in high void

Our famous robot Betty applies insulation to suspended floors with a minimum of 30cm clearance.

Betty is name after Frances Elizabeth "Betty" Holberton. She was one of the six original programmers of ENIAC, the first general purpose electronic digital computer, and was the inventor of breakpoints in computer debugging.
