How do I know if my floor is suitable for Q-Bot’s underfloor insulation? What is Q-Bot looking for?

The Q-Bot team will conduct a Floor Health Survey to find out if the property is suitable and identify any potential risks, which typically takes between 45 and 75 minutes.

The surveyor will collect information on the property, the floor, underfloor conditions, access points, air vents, etc. He will also create a floor plan showing the dimensions of each room, and measure the exact area to be treated, which will be reflected in the post-survey quote.

The surveyor will measure moisture content levels of floorboards and floor joists. If the levels are greater than 20%, then building regulations state that the floor shouldn’t be insulated until the underlying problem has been rectified. Look out for any damp timbers, signs of rot or a damp or musty smell in the void, lower walls or floor boards as these can be indicators of a wider problem.

The surveyor will also check the access to the crawl space and make sure there is enough clearance underneath to manoeuvre the robot and spray layers of insulation to the underside of the floorboards. The minimum void height required is 200mm from the bottom of the joist to the ground.

Finally, To check for compliance and to qualify for funding, our surveyors are required to look at ventilation in rooms that will be insulated to ensure adequate levels are maintained. Where necessary Q-Bot may be required to fit additional background ventilation in order to meet building regulation as part of an installation.

If you can confirm any of these checks prior to the survey, please inform us. Over 80% of the surveys we do proceed to install, some need remedial action first and a small proportion are unable to continue with an install.
