How do I check the height of the underfloor space?
The minimum height of the underfloor space we need to insert the robot is 200mm from the bottom of the joist to the ground below. Building Regulations state 150mm clearance must be left under a suspended timber floor for ventilation purposes. If Q-Bot’s survey indicates that the added insulation will exceed this, Q-Bot will not proceed.
If you already have an existing access hatch to the underfloor space, you can open it, use a tape measure to measure the height of the void from the bottom of the joist to the ground below.
In the case where you don’t have any access, you can try slipping a ruler, or a long steel edge between the gaps in the floorboards to touch the ground beneath. [Typically your floorboards are about 20mm thick and a floor joist is about 100mm deep, so anything more than 320mm would usually have a high probability of being suitable.] If you can’t reach the floor with a normal ruler, that is usually a good sign. During the Floor Health Survey, our surveyor will measure the height of the void to confirm suitability for install.
